WELCOME:
Welcome to dbarecovery.com. The purpose of this site is to provide
a better understanding of the backup and recovery procedures for Oracle and
SQL Server databases. We do this
with detailed examples that you can incorporate into your own disaster recovery
plan. This site is completely FREE, and you don't even have to register
to view all of our content. We would
however love for you to contact
us to let us know what you liked about the site and how we can make
it even better.
For both Oracle and SQL Server, the site provides
sections on General Backup and Recovery Information "Backup Info"
and in depth backup and recovery exercises "Exercises", both
of which are described below:
BACKUP INFO:
- Here you'll find general information about backup and recovery unique
to both Oracle and SQL Server
- Click on these links to get info about the database architecture and general
recommended configurations for your database
- We also have database specific links - we point you to additional
resources to help answer your questions
EXERCISES:
- Click on the links in the exercises sections to see very long, detailed
examples complete with screen shots
- Most of the exercises are meant to simulate real-world failures and
show a DBA how to achieve the most full recovery possible
- Use and modify the exercises to meet your own needs when crafting your
database disaster recovery plan
- For SQL Server, exercises were performed on SQL Server 2000 Enterprise
Edition running
on Windows 2000
- For Oracle, exercises were performed using Oracle 9i running on Red
Hat Linux
- WARNING: All exercises must be performed on non-production databases
on non-production servers. These exercises are meant to be tried in
a closed development environment - from there you can adapt them to
meet your own needs.
